Introduction

Historically, the parish of Kirkby Overblow belonged to the West Riding of Yorkshire and contained the townships of Rigton, Sicklinghall, Kearby-with-Netherby, and Stainburn as well as Kirkby Overblow itself. In 1911, the parish covered an area of 11,548 acres (4,673 hectares) and had a population of 1,184.

Fourteen men of the parish who lost their lives in the 1914-18 war are named on a white marble tablet that can be found in All Saints' Church, Kirkby Overblow. They are listed in the left-hand menu bar and biographical details of each man can be accessed by clicking on his name. The homes of the fourteen are mapped below.

Missing from the tablet is John James Harrison whose date- and cause of death were curiously and erroneously given to Ernest Dalby. I am grateful to Carol Simmonds for pointing this out.
