Title - Alfred Edward Roberts
Border

Born at Llanfairfechan in April 1899, Alfred Edward Roberts was just 19 when he was taken prisoner during the Battle of the Lys, most probably as the Accrington Pals fell back to a position behind Celery Copse (Bois de Merris) in the late afternoon of 12th April 1918. Alfred was held at Limburg, Wahn and Stendal camps in Germany before being returned to the United Kingdom after the Armistice. Cards sent home by Alfred from the prisoner-of-war camps have been kept by his family, and appear here by kind permission of his son, Derek Roberts.
