This film shows the Accrington Pals on 14th December 1915 practising their final departure from Hurdcott Camp.1 Unfortunately the battalion lost its way, and the planned 3-mile march was extended to one of nine or ten miles!2 The film appears here by kind permission of the Queen's Lancashire Regiment and the North West Film Archive at Manchester Metropolitan University.

Requires broadband connection and Adobe Flash Player 8 or later.

Notes

  1. The introduction to the film is misleading in stating that it shows the battalion leaving for active service. The Pals left Hurdcott Camp for the final time well after darkness fell on the night of 18th/19th December (Accrington Gazette, Saturday 25th December 1915, page 5).
